(Cleveland)- White County Board of Education Member Roger Fitzpatrick resigned his position Friday in order to qualify for the Ninth District Congressional race. Fitzpatrick, who made a bid for this seat in 2012, announced back in November his desire to run again.

Fitzpatrick was born and raised in Cleveland. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves for 9 years. He has been a teacher and a school administrator for 32 years. He was elected to the White County Board of Education in 2014.

Fitpatrick is required to step down from the board of education before qualifying to run. Qualifying for the congressional race starts Monday.

White County Election Superintendent Garrison Baker said he will be filing paperwork to set up a special election to fill Fitzpatrick’s position on the Board of Education. A date for that special election has not been determined.
