RABUN COUNTY, GA — Drivers traveling through the U.S. 441 widening zone in Rabun County should expect intermittent delays beginning Monday as Georgia Power crews conduct transmission line work at Pinnacle Road and Claybourne Street.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said the work is tied to the 441 Phase 2 widening project and will run Dec. 1–11, weather permitting. Georgia Power crews will set new poles, remove existing ones and install new overhead transmission lines. A crane will be stationed on site for lifting and placement.
While Georgia Power has access to the crane through Dec. 18, the company expects to finish at this location by Dec. 11 unless weather interferes.
GDOT said the operation will require short traffic stoppages and slower movement through the work zone. Flagging crews will direct vehicles as needed, and officials have asked Georgia Power to keep lane closures to a minimum to avoid the long backups drivers have recently experienced along the corridor.
Motorists should plan for occasional stopped traffic, use caution and follow posted signs and flagger instructions.
GDOT reminded drivers that schedules may change and encouraged the public to check real-time updates by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
