Georgia’s Department of Transportation has wrapped up the third phase of a major paving project on I-85.
The $141 million project widened I-85 north and southbound from two to three lanes along U.S. 129 and 441 between Banks and Jackson counties. A total of four bridges were also replaced by GDOT as part of the overall project.
The phase III construction process began in the summer of 2022 and underwent completion phases earlier this week.
Future improvements along that stretch of interstate are planned all the way to the South Carolina border, according to GDOT.
The project’s final touches – signage and road markings – are expected to be complete in the weeks ahead.
