Habersham County voters will return to the polls on June 18 to settle the District 1 county commission race. A recount on June 3 will determine who is on the ballot.
The county elections office says absentee by-mail ballots will be available “as soon as possible.” The absentee application deadline is June 7. To request an absentee ballot, download the application form from the My Voter Page (MVP) on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website or contact the Habersham County Elections Office at (706) 839-0170.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the county elections office no later than 7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, June 18, to be counted.
Mail delivery delays
With the runoff fast approaching, postal service delivery delays could impact those planning to mail in their ballots. Voters should consider this when deciding whether to vote by mail or in person.
“I would encourage voters to bring their absentee ballots, once they receive and vote them, directly to either our office in Cornelia or to one of the Deputy Registrars at the administration building (at the front desk or Planning & Building Dept),” says county election supervisor Laurel Ellison.
Ellison says absentee ballots should go out by the end of next week. Voters who do not receive them by Thursday, June 13, may consider voting early at one of the precincts or on election day, June 18.
