White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner, District 1 Commissioner Terry Goodger, and White County Sheriff Rick Kelley had the opportunity on Monday to meet with White County’s local legislative team working in Atlanta.

Chairman Travis Turner said they appreciated the time to get with State Senators Steve Gooch and Bo Hatchett, as well as Representatives Stan Gunter and Will Wade. During the meeting, Chairman Turner and Commissioner Goodger requested additional state funding related to a regional library that the county hopes to build in the near future.

The Commission board has been collaborating with the Northeast Georgia Regional Library System in this area, so Turner says this makes it better qualified for additional funding.

Turner said they were advised that the county is number one on the central library location list, and if the current funding holds, it could be reflected in the State budget when that is approved.

Additionally, discussions touched upon the impact of the new inland port on Highway 365 in Hall County and how it could benefit White County, as well as the necessity for the state to address mental illness issues that affect every area of the state.
