On the final day of qualifying Friday for Cleveland’s municipal election, former Councilmember Annie Sutton completed and returned her paperwork to seek the Ward 2 council seat.
This year’s election is for Mayor and Wards 1 and 2 council seats. The Ward 2 seat became open when Rebecca Yardley resigned, effective August 31. She says a tight housing market forced her and her family to relocate to Habersham County.
Incumbent Mayor Josh Turner qualified Monday and incumbent Ward 1 Councilmember Nan Bowen qualified for re-election on Thursday.
Qualifying for the three open positions ended Friday afternoon.
Since all three offices had only one candidate, Cleveland City Clerk Lisa Ritchie said, “We are working with the White County Board of Elections and Registrations to determine how to proceed once the write-in period has elapsed.”
The City of Cleveland has contracted with White County Elections to handle this year’s city election.
