Fire heavily damages pastorium at Hollywood Baptist Church

Two adults and five children escaped injury Monday morning when their home caught fire in the Hollywood community.

Habersham County E-9-1-1 received a call at 6:17 a.m. reporting a fire on the back porch area of the 2,000-square-foot brick home on a full basement.

The home, at 200 Hollywood Church Road, serves as the pastorium for Hollywood Baptist Church and is located on the church property.

Smoke and flames were visible from at least a half-mile away as Habersham County Emergency Services units arrived on scene and began attacking the fire.

One resident was treated at the scene for minor burns and smoke inhalation, but otherwise there were no injuries.

Firefighters remained on scene until 9:16 a.m.

The home suffered heavy damage, but the family was able to salvage some items after the fire was extinguished.

The fire, believed to be accidental in nature, is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
