Georgians can expect severe weather drills on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. as the state observes Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service have declared Nov. 3 as Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day to help Georgians prepare for upcoming severe weather trends.
According to GEMA/HS, climatology from the National Weather Service shows that parts of Georgia see a secondary peak in severe weather—including tornadoes—during November and early December.
“As hurricane season ends, we encourage our residents to continue to prepare for other types of severe weather,” said GEMA/HS Director Chris Stallings in a press release. “We usually see heavy thunderstorms and tornadoes during this season, so now is the perfect time for Georgians to educate themselves and their loved ones on how to stay safe in case of emergencies.”
Schools and businesses will conduct severe weather exercises and tornado drills, which will be activated by the NOAA Weather Radio’s routine weekly test. All six National Weather Service Forecast Offices will issue this radio test simultaneously across the state around 9:30 a.m.
Everyone is encouraged to partake in this event to help Georgians stay safe.
