Hazel Marie Anderson Wood

Funeral services for Hazel Marie Anderson Wood of Clarkesville will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev. Connie Berry, Rev. Raymond Payne, and Rev. Furman Lewis will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Wood passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the age of 88.

She is preceded in death by her husbandof thirty-four years, Edwin Truett Wood and two infant sons Jerome Reed Wood and Warren Keith Wood.

She leaves behind two sons and daughter-in-laws, Joe and Judy Wood and Rick and Sharon Wood and grandchildren Blake and Celeste Wood, Kevin and Melissa Wood, Brian Wood, Becca Wood, Aaron Wood, Cheyenne Wood and seven great-grandchildren all of Clarkesville.

Hazel grew up as the oldest and only daughter of John Oscar Anderson and Mary Mae Jones Anderson. Her younger brothers are J.O. Anderson, Jr. , Jack Anderson (deceased), and Rex Anderson. She graduated from Cornelia High School in 1943. She attended Bob Jones University and worked for Western Union before moving back to Cornelia where she married Edwin on August 14, 1947. They bought a farm in the Stone Pile community of Habersham County.

Hazel was a loving mother and a hard worker. She was a farmer’s wife working with her husband on the farm and also bookkeeper for her family’s construction business. At the age of 40, Hazel attended North Georgia Technical School and received an LPN degree in nursing. She worked for many years at the Stephens County Hospital in the obstetrics department. Later she worked at Habersham Central High School.

Hazel enjoyed outdoor farm work, riding horses, Meals on Wheels, and playing the dulcimer. An active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, she loved Women’s Missionary Union and ladies’ Bible studies. Her family will always remember all the wonderful meals she made and the memories that she created.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM.
