Week 2 of high school football wrapped up Friday night with some big wins in Northeast Georgia. Here are your scores from across the region.
Habersham Central 56, Apalachee 35
The Habersham Central Raiders blasted Apalachee, as Jackson Clouatre set the all-time single-game rushing record for Habersham Central with over 300 yards. The Raiders were up 28-14 at the break and doubled their score in the second half. This makes two straight for the Raiders. They’re off next week and hope to continue the momentum when they return to their home turf on Sept. 25 to take on White County.
#2 Prince Avenue Christian 21, #1 Rabun County 31
#1 Rabun County and #2 Prince Avenue Christian squared off for the first time ever, pitting the nation’s top QBs against each other. Brock Vandagriff (Class of 2021, UGA commit) and Gunner Stockton (Class of 2022, South Carolina commit) have 220 touchdowns between them.
Rabun raised everyone’s blood pressure in Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium after seeing a 31-7 third quarter lead end up as a 31-31 ball game with two minutes to go, as Vandagriff and the Wolverines put up 24 unanswered points. The Stockton-to-Clark TD gave Rabun the go-ahead with 2:19 left, and moments later Cory Keller secured victory with his second interception of the game. The game was broadcast live on ESPN.
North Hall 0, Stephens County 34
The Stephens County Indians picked up their first win of the season Friday night, shutting out the North Hall Trojans at home. The victory gives the Indians a chance to reset after last week’s disappointing loss to White county.
#9 White County 50, #6 Hart County 47
The Warriors were exceptional last week at home against Stephens County and they were again Friday night. The Warriors defeated Hart County on the Bulldogs’ home turf, pulling off a narrow victory in the final minutes of the game. With four minutes left in the fourth, the Warriors led by 1. Hart County went up by 6 and with less than three minutes to play, the Warriors’ J Ben Haynes slid in for another TD and 2-point conversion to lift White County to a win. Next week, the Warriors are at home against Pickens County.
