The Hall County Sheriff’s Office annual Sheriff’s Show & Shine car show broke its own record on Saturday, August 10, 2019, with 167 show vehicles registering for the event to benefit the agency’s Christmas Bicycle Program. That’s 44 more cars, trucks and/or motorcycles than the total number of entries for the 2018 show.
The Show & Shine, now held at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters on Browns Bridge Road, had humble beginnings with approximately 88 vehicles in the inaugural event held at Laurel Park.
Each year, the show’s impact has increased, making it easier for deputies to meet the annual $10,000 fundraising goal for the bicycle program. Between 2019’s Show & Shine sponsors and the event itself, the Sheriff’s Office has already met that goal this year.
While the show is a great time of family fun, it has always been about the families the bicycle program serves. During its more than 20-year history, the program has provided bicycles to less-fortunate families for Christmas. Since the inception of the Show & Shine, the Sheriff’s Office, through the support of the community, has given away no less than 100 bicycles and accompanying gift cards each year.
“It amazes me each year at the level of generous commitment our community has to support these children through the car show,” Sheriff Gerald Couch says. “Sponsors, vendors, contributors, entrants and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office put a lot into the show so that struggling families can experience the joy of gifts at Christmas. I’m excited for December to arrive.”
