The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the suspect who led law enforcement on a high speed chase through Rabun and Habersham Counties Sunday night. Trooper Aaron Church of the Toccoa State Patrol Post identifies the motorcycle driver as 31-year old Michael Wayne Hendrix of Jackson, Georgia (above). Church says the chase ended when Hendrix crashed his motorcycle on State Route 365 South just below Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway in Demorest.
High speed chase ends in wreck in Demorest
According to Church, officers began pursuing Hendrix after he refused to stop for authorities in Rabun County for a tail light violation. Rabun County issued a lookout for the suspect. That led to a high speed chase that Church says, at one point, topped 120 mph.
Hendrix crashed into a Clarkesville Police patrol car during a rolling road block. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was treated and released.
Hendrix is charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He’s being held in the Habersham County Detention Center.
