Habersham Electric Membership Corporation (HEMC) is getting out of the wireless internet business. NGN Connect recently bought back the wireless customer base and assets it sold to HEMC in 2015.
Impact
The sale affects approximately 100 customers but company officials insist it won’t affect service. “Wireless service will be uninterrupted,” assures NGN Business and Marketing Administrator Alyssa Sellers. “The only changes customers will notice are in regards to billing.”
February will be the last statement customers receive from Habersham EMC; they will receive their first bill from NGN Connect in March.
Wireless customers will benefit from this transition…
“NGN Connect has many years of experience operating both fiber and wireless broadband systems and is excited to be serving the wireless customers in Habersham EMC’s area again,” says NGN Connect President Michael Foor.
The company won’t say how much it paid but HEMC Director of Member Services David Foster says the sale “supports HEMC’s initiative to provide services that promote cooperative value to all its members without subsidies.” He adds, “Wireless customers will benefit from this transition because of the specialized services and improved connectivity offered by NGN Connect.”
Although HEMC will no longer offer wireless service it will continue to offer its Trailwave Fiber Optic Services.
Expansion and eligibility
Letters have been sent to HEMC Wireless customers notifying them of the sale. NGN Connect will continue to provide technical support through the same local representatives as before.
Meanwhile, NGN Connect continues to explore its options for expansion. The Clarkesville-based company is testing other wireless technologies in some of its service areas.
The company is now accepting new customers in Habersham. Eligibility is based on a location. For more information call 706.754.5323 or email [email protected].
