Lewis G. Smith, age 87, of Mount Airy, Georgia went to be with The Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2017 following a brief illness.
Mr. Smith was born on December 13, 1929 in the Batesville Community to the late Taft and Della Trotter Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Smith, and Maurice Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany. Mr. Smith retired from Fieldale Farms with 27 years of loyal and dedicated service. Lewis had a true passion for restoring antique cars and trucks.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sue Franklin Smith, of Mount Airy, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Smith Rudeseal and John Dale Rudeseal, of Mount Airy, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchel and Susan Smith, of Cornelia, GA; Tony and Janet Smith, of Mount Airy, GA; sister, Olene Loudermilk, of Mount Airy, GA; grandchildren, Melissa Rudeseal Downer, Andrew Rudeseal, Gentri Wilbanks, Jake Smith, Jaron Smith, Sheldon Smith, Cameron Smith, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Walter Singletary officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
