Joao Costa has been named the 2016 Appalachian Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year as announced by the league office Wednesday evening.
The sophomore from Porto Alegre, Brazil, was also named First-Team All-Conference and awarded the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals this season.
Costa scored 23 goals this season, ranking third in the country. He ranks first in shots per game, second in shots on goal per game, third in goals per game, fourth in points per game and sixth in total points. He ranks first in the AAC in all of those categories.
Costa is the first AAC Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference honoree in school history.
Costa is now eligible for All-American status in the NAIA, an award that will be announced closer to the National Championship.
