Bicentennial, books, hoops and more

The Habersham County Bicentennial committee will also be a big part of this year’s festival. The committee will have a booth at the Depot hoping to bring awareness to next year’s 200th birthday celebration of our county. There will be speakers from the county to let everyone know about the birthday plans and encourage the community to get involved with the celebration. The committee will also be selling water and t-shirts, and handing out information for the coming year’s events throughout the county.

“I invite all citizens, past and present, to join us in celebrating this milestone anniversary. The history of Habersham County is a testament to the varied and resilient nature of those who live here. Be proud of our history and heritage,” says County Commission Chairman Victor Anderson.

The City of Cornelia will also have an information booth set up during the festival where you can pick up a bag of apples or a candied apple made locally by Jaemor Farms. Festival guides, t-shirts, and water will also be available at the information booth.

In addition to all of the other planned activities you can meet, greet and shoot hoops with Legendary Harlem Globetrotter Michael Douglas.

Friends of the Cornelia Library will be selling bagged lunches and bags of books during the festival. The early bird book sale begins Friday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

“This is going to be a festival of epic proportions! We just have so many activities throughout the downtown district that it shouldn’t be hard to spend an entire day here with us. I would encourage everyone to make sure they have an event guide that includes a map of where everything is and a schedule of events throughout the day,” says Owensby.
